Shadow Act was formed in 2002 by Tyler LeVander, writing and performing progressive metal. With the addition of Ian Cathcart on bass, Doug Bogan on keys, Meela Dudley singing, and Ricky Mitarotanda on guitar, the band dramatically altered their composition and perfomance style. Integrating the band's original roots of progressive rock, their new style evolved into a combination of jazz and funk/fusion, as well as latin, hardcore, and indie.
