Adrenaline Reviews:

By MIKE CHAIKEN
EDITIONS EDITOR Bristol Observer

Southington’s Sling Slang Records has brought some new music forth to the world. And that music is coming from Bristol’s own Adrenaline. The young band just released its first album, “Broken Clocks,” on the local indie label. We caught up with the band recently via email to talk to them about the band as a whole and the new record. The band—which is Cam Dickson on bass, Jack Johnson on drums, Mike Johnson on lead guitar, and Dylan Pesino on vocals— replied to the questions as a collective.

OBSERVER: How did you guys meet up?

ADRENALINE: After a long time of looking for a lead singer, Cam, Mike, and Jack, were finally going to give up looking, when a friend introduced us to Dylan. He came over for an audition and was a perfect match with the musical stylings of the band.

O:Why do you think this group of musicians was able to connect on an artistic level?

A:We all have similar interests and abilities.

O:Who are your musical heroes? And what bands influence your sound?

A: Incubus, Foo Fighters, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Alice in Chains, Say Anything. They are all very different, and for the most part, all of them started at a young age, rose to the top, and created a sound that is world renowned.

O: How do you try to take those elements and create something new and original?

A:We try to come up with our own sound and while we are influenced by the other bands, we try to create an entirely new sound to show off our innovative side, like the rock revolution.

O: How does it feel to have your first album out on SlingSlang?

A: It feels great that we are able to write our own music, and even better to have the resources to produce a hard copy and be able to get it out to the world.

O:What were you trying to accomplish with your first release?

A:We were trying to get our name out to the music world, spread our message for all listeners to interpret. Also, we wanted to get a fan base and a following.

O:What inspired the songs on this record?

A: Clocks that were broken, shapes that were gold, and mirrors that split in half.

O:Why did you call the album “Broken Clocks?”

A: First off, “Broken Clocks” is the name of a song on the album, and also we were trying to theme the album around time, and how to manage it. Also, the underlying message of the album was about time, a guideline of time, and why you should not waste it.

O:What are your longterm goals for the band?

A: First, we all want to continue writing songs and playing them as well as coming out with another album. Music is what we love to do. We would like to be able to leave our imprint and our music in the history of music. In the end we just want to stay together, because we are like a family, and just want to continue to create our own music.

Adrenaline Broken Clocks
Reviewed By Heather Burke

Adrenaline is a young band that sounds like it was heavily influenced by 90's Alternative bands such as Soul Asylum, Sublime, or Sound Garden. I think it's great to hear bands embracing such a classic sound but also bringing it up to date and making it their own. Broken Clocks is Adrenaline's debut album. Which makes me wonder what the future holds for Adrenaline! When a band debuts with such an amazing album there is only two things that can happen either their second album will blow the first one out of the water or they will crash and burn! I hope they don't crash and burn.  One of my favorite songs on this album is the title track Broken Clocks! It has a trippy 70's vibe to it, with a guitar riff that stands out but doesn't out shine the rest of the instrumental. I love it when artist stray from the norm to embrace a new sound or reuse a classic one!
I have to applauded Adrenaline for not only having ballad style songs such as Just a Dream on Broken Clocks but they also added a harder song The Darkness. Giving you a sample of what they are capable of. I expect to hear a lot more about this hot new artist from Sling Slang Records.
